West View Academy

Anchor Church has been supporting West View Academy through Trevor Davies who went to Kenya together with Jack Davies and Jeremy David. Many lives were changed by God working through them including many healings. The highlight for them was to find out that all graduates from West View Academy have been offered secondary education funded by the Kenyan government. That was really an answer to prayer.

About Us

We are a positive, lively chuch and welcome you and your family to come and join us for our Sunday Worship Services. Learn to develop a relationship with God through inspirational and contemporary worship (live band), practical Bible teaching and activities for the kids, prayer and a positive, encouraging support network.

Background

45 years ago, Marjorie Davies, a citizen of West End, donated some land adjoining her back garden to be used as a Church in Quob Lane.

The Quob Lane Site

A building was constructed and the site was acquired by Southampton Community Church and over the years it has become very well known as both a church and the Kings School.  At present a portion of the building is used by Paint Pots, the very well established Nursery School.

Statement of Faith

We believe in God the Almighty Father, Creator of heaven and earth. We believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the Almighty Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

Words of Encouragement

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you or forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6).

God commands our confident trust in Him. In a world that encourages us to believe in ourselves and to achieve all we deserve, it’s paramount to understand who and Whose we are. Society sets a bar to earn and accumulate. Accomplishments and accessories are lauded above humility and God-ordained purpose.

“Very often, people have a hard time taking God at His word,” wrote Jack Graham. “If God says it, that settles it, and there’s absolutely no reason to doubt it.” So, in place of worldly standards, the Old Testament admonishment of Deuteronomy 31:6 can serve as a benchmark in our everyday lives.

Global Mission

Anchor Community Church supports West View Academy which is a school in a village in south west Kenya, called Chungni, near Migori. It is for the children of poor families, and for orphans. The school is funded through giving. Just £5 per month pays for each child’s school fees, and contributes towards the salaries of the teachers. Currently the teachers are paid half of that paid to government funded schools but our objective is that there will be parity in due time. However school fees for these schools are much much higher which is the reason why so many children, mainly in the bush, are not going to school. The school is faith based, teaching about Jesus Christ. Our intention is to build a total of eleven classes and one computer room. Three pre-Primary, eight Primary (aged 5-16), and a computer room. We also want to build a staff room for the teachers, and a Dormitory which will double up as a Dining Hall.

Current Series

The Ten Commandements

“For this is the love of God that we keep the ten comandments. And his comandments are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3)

Common Questions
What is a typical service like?

A typical service starts at 10:15 am with an informal chat (coffee and biscuits provided). There will be a welcome session where announcements are given of any events happening during the forthcoming week and issues for prayer are risen.  We then worship our Lord Jesus with songs and hymns led by the spirit.  The congregation is given an opportunity to share words of encouragement followed by Anchor Kids and offering.  Pastor Ben Davies then follows with the sermon the Lord has inspired him to preach upon.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) UpdateMessage from Pr Ben Davies

Worship at Anchor Community Church will start this coming Sunday 19th July from 10.30am to 12pm.  In order for things to run smoothly, please follow the  guidelines below as closely as possible.  Let’s all work together as a team to ensure that everyone is kept as safe as possible.  We thank God for His provision and protection so far. (Psalm 91)

·      If displaying any symptoms of COVID-19 please do not attend the service.  Get tested and self isolate for 7 days.

·      Enter the building via the white double-glazed doors (main entrance) or the fire exit with ramp for those unable to walk too far.

·      Upon entering the building please thoroughly wash your hands using the sinks in the toilet areas – try to use the same sink each time you wash your hands and use the same toilet where possible.

·      Hand gel, tissues and antiseptic wipes will be available in the entrance hall and in the hall.  However, we would encourage you to bring your own small bottle of hand gel and tissues.

·      Greet each other verbally or with an elbow bump – no shaking hands or hugging.

·      You will be asked to complete a track and trace form with details such as address and phone. number so that in the event you develop symptoms, we can track people you have been in contact with.  If your details change at all please let us know immediately.

·      Where possible bring your own drink.  However, we will serve tea and coffee from the hatch.  Remember social distancing in queuing and sitting (2 metres)  Place used cups on the counter top.

·      It is NOT mandatory to wear a mask but if you feel safer to do so then please do.

·      Seats have been set out with a mixture of 1’s, 2’s and family group sizes.  Find a suitable seat and please use that same seat each week where possible.

·      Children will have separate work spaces in sibling groups with separate resources.

·      Families could we encourage you to talk to your children before hand and ask them to either sit with you as a family or at their designated table to do their activities. Parents can sit with their children for the activities should they chose to.  Unfortunately, we are not allowed to have out any toys or play areas.  We would ask that at the end of the service parents are responsible for keeping their children with them and not allowing them to run around the hall.

·      During the service: Only one person is allowed to sing normally (probably Nicky). Singing is not allowed unless it is quieter than a normal conversation so should you wish to hum along or sing under your breath, that will be fine.  We would still encourage you to share any scripture or share testimonies and words from God within our worship time.

·      Tithes and offering will be collected by an adult who wear a glove.  We will accept cash but where possible, we would encourage you to pay money directly into the Anchor Community Church account you can do this by BACS/standing order to account number: 83949745 sort code 40-42-18     Please use your name as the reference so we can identify it on the church account.

·      Communion: We will be using disposable plastic cups which will be handed to you by an adult wearing gloves.  Bread rolls will be placed in paper bags and handed to you.  If you have allergies to white bread please let Nicky know so that an alternative can be provided.

·      We will try to record the messages so that we can eventually put them online for others to enjoy.

·      Wash your hands or use hand gel before having any drinks at the end of the service.

·      Please leave via the fire exit door and ramp from the hall.

·      We can only have up to 30 people in hall so if we get increased numbers we may have to look at alternative ways of having our service.

We can’t wait to see you all again and be able to fellowship in the ‘flesh’. We are social beings by nature and this is going to be a challenging time for us all to not be able to hug and get too close but we thank you in advance for your understanding and look forward to seeing you on Sunday.     Ben and Nicky
